STEAM Teacher

BSH seeks a dynamic, creative, and enthusiastic STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Math) teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The STEAM Teacher will deliver STEAM instruction through project-based learning methods and collaborate with a dynamic team of educators to provide STEAM related experiences for JK through 6th grade students. The STEAM teacher’s primary role will be to facilitate developmentally appropriate STEAM learning activities and experiences  to foster intellectual, physical and social growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver STEAM-oriented instruction through project-based learning methods
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning
  • Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration
  • Works directly with school administrators and faculty, and staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of STEAM initiatives and curriculum
  • Uses a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively
  • Organizes, develops, and coordinates special STEAM events/activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in the STEM/STEAM model and science and technology overall
  • Model for students the mission and values of BSH
  • Demonstrate subject matter competency and the ability to communicate that to middle and high school students
  • Devise a system of classroom order and discipline which contributes to the learning of all students

Qualifications:

Custodian

The Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School is seeking two full-time School Custodians to begin in summer 2022. The role of Custodian fulfills the mission of The Blessed Sacrament Huguenot School by maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and organized environment. The Custodian assists the faculty and staff by ensuring that the school is well maintained for its educational purpose. The Custodian has decision-making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Cleans assigned areas including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting and trash
    removal:
    ○ Interior – hallways, restrooms, offices, classrooms, lunchroom, multi-purpose
    rooms, and any other area assigned by supervisor
    ○ Exterior – Perimeter of school building, parking lot, playground, windows, and any
    other area assigned by supervisor
  • Stocks toilet and sanitary supplies
  • Cleans AC filters and vents
  • Scrubs, mops, disinfects, and polishes hard-surfaced floors in restrooms, cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, etc. as required.
  • Cleans and dusts furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, doors, trim, and related furnishings
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and wood work
  • Cleans all glass including framed pictures, doors, windows, etc.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles on a daily basis
  • Washes windows and walls
  • Polishes metal work; and takes care of equipment and materials
  • Assists with the preparation of special events and activities to include, but not necessarily limited to, setting up, tearing down, and cleaning
  • Performs minor maintenance and repairs; immediately reports to administration needed major repairs by maintenance personnel
  • Keeps floors, walkways, steps, and hallways in a clean, safe, and attractive condition at all times, especially during periods of inclement weather
  • Operates and checks lights, HVAC units, well, and other related items
  • Regulates the heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide an environment appropriate to the seasons and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
  • Waxes and refinishes floors and shampoos carpets
  • Pick up paper and other debris from grounds and buildings
  • Completes Maintenance Requests such as assisting staff with basic repair needs such as unclogging toilets, fixing/assembling bookshelves, painting, changing light bulbs and scrubbing, stripping and waxing floors
  • Assure security of buildings and grounds during assigned times
  • Moves and/or re-arranges furniture, chairs, desks, tables, etc
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Important Job Functions

  • Collaborates with others to enhance the work environment  
  • Conducts emergency clean-ups and repairs as needed 
  • Conducts periodic maintenance activities  
  • Communicates maintenance and repair issues to administration
  • He/She will also provide assistance to students, employees, and visitors in courteous and professional manner

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma preferred. Experience with custodial/janitorial work in a school setting is preferred.

  • Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to assigned work

Physical Demands

  • Required to lift or carry furniture, equipment, and supplies  
  • Required to perform strenuous walking, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, climbing, twisting, grasping, and reaching overhead  
  • Required to work with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery and uneven walking surfaces 

Position Summary

A full-time daytime custodian position and a full-time evening custodian position with competitive pay, paid time off, benefits and a great retirement package. This is currently an exempt 40 hours/week, 12-month position.

Fourth Grade Teacher

BSH seeks an enthusiastic, caring, and committed Fourth Grade teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.
Core duties for this position include teaching a class of 12-15 elementary aged students.
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree and current Virginia
teacher license and endorsement in the assigned teaching areas.

After School Care Staff

BSH is seeking several enthusiastic, caring, and self-motivated part-time staff workers for its After School Care program for the 2021-2022 school year. After School Care positions are offered Monday-Friday, 2:30PM – 6:00PM.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure development of positive relationships with students with a view to promote self-esteem and self- discipline
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment
  • Assist the lead teacher in ensuring the physical, social, cognitive and educational excellence of children
  • Must demonstrate success and reliability in working as a member of a team

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of High School Diploma with relevant, proven experience working with preschool and elementary-aged children.

Substitute Teachers

BSH is seeking substitute teachers for grades Preschool-12th grade to ensure the continuation of instruction in absence of the regular teacher.

Substitutes will follow lesson plans created by the regular teacher, maintain established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned, assume responsibility for overseeing student behavior in class, during lunch, and other activity periods.
